WC Visa Scandal Takes New Turn As Over 30 People Allegedly Misrepresented as GTA Board Members

According to a report by JoyNews on October 10, 2026, the World Cup visa controversy has taken a new turn, with fresh claims that more than 30 people were wrongly presented to the United States Embassy as members of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) board.

The allegation was made by Vincent Assafuah, who claims the individuals were misrepresented to the embassy, apparently to secure visas for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States. The claim has intensified scrutiny of how official travel arrangements tied to the tournament are being handled.

If true, the allegation raises serious questions about the integrity of the visa application process and the accountability of those who compile and submit official delegation lists. Presenting people to a foreign mission under a false institutional affiliation could amount to misrepresentation, with consequences that may include visa denials, bans and possible legal action.

The report has also triggered calls for clarity from the GTA, which has not been named as a participant in any wrongdoing. Observers say the authority and the government should state publicly who sits on the board and what role, if any, the authority played in the submission of names to the embassy. An independent investigation, many argue, would help establish the facts and restore public confidence.

The scandal also puts a spotlight on the wider issue of access to World Cup travel. Many Ghanaian supporters are applying for visas through the regular process, and any suggestion that official channels were abused to favour a select few is likely to provoke public anger.

As the story develops, attention will turn to whether the authorities launch a formal inquiry and whether those named in the allegation come forward to answer them.
