Reporter Noah Weiskopf described the fall on X. “#UNC DB Kaleb Cost just smacked into the concrete wall in the back of the end zone. It doesn’t look like it’s very well-padded,” he wrote.
“Cost launched his helmet while on the ground and it flew into the crowd, nearly taking a lady’s head off in the first row,” Weiskopf added.
Weiskopf later posted a video captioned, “Medical personnel just walked the lady who was seemingly struck by #UNC’s Kaleb Cost’s helmet out of the stands.”

Weiskopf’s first post does not clarify whether the helmet made contact. His video caption later says the woman was “seemingly struck,” and medical personnel walked her out.
According to EssentiallySports, security checked on Pitt fans, and officials called no penalty. No outlet has reported whether the fan was hurt.
Cost left with trainers before being ruled out. UNC has not announced a diagnosis.
North Carolina still won 21-17, with Billy Edwards Jr. throwing a 75-yard touchdown to Shamar Easter to put UNC ahead. It gave Belichick his first win over a ranked opponent since taking over the program.
