Dominic Solanke’s stoppage-time equaliser salvaged 10-man Tottenham a 1-1 draw away to Manchester United that lifts them off the foot of the Premier League table.

Spurs looked set to be punished for a wasteful performance when Bryan Mbeumo struck home the opening goal in the 73rd minute before substitute Rodrigo Bentancur saw red for a headbutt on Luke Shaw.

Solanke, though, popped up to head home Sandro Tonali’s inswinging cross in the second minute of added time to hand Spurs a priceless point even if their winless start to the season continues.

Sam Tabuteau rated the Spurs players at Old Trafford…

Antonin Kinsky 6: Had nothing to do in the first-half but saved well from Mbeumo’s low effort. Not much he could do about the goal he conceded.

Archie Gray 7: Worked tirelessly to get up in support of Mohammed Kudus but was undone for United’s opener by a neat bit of play down his flank.

Jan Paul van Hecke 5: His aggressive style is high-risk, high-reward and with United so toothless early on, it worked wonders as Spurs kept coming forward from his line-breaking passes. When it mattered most, though, he was not tight enough to Mbeumo.

Marcos Senesi 8: In for Micky van de Ven, he looked assured as United failed to lay a glove on Spurs in the first half. His passing was quick and direct, helping Spurs keep the pressure on as they swarmed all over United early on.

Impressive: Marcos SenesiAFP/GettyDestiny Udogie 7: Supported Savio well, winning the ball high and quickly moving it into the path of the Brazilian winger. Covered well to deny Bruno Fernandes in the second-half.

Lucas Bergvall 8: Central to Spurs’ positive start. A high-energy performance. The Swede was alert to every loose ball, and Solanke had to score after he turned over possession on the edge of United’s box.

Sandro Tonali 8: Played a delightful cross for Solanke to head home. A £100million impact from the Italian, who has massively struggled to justify his price tag.

Conor Gallagher 7: An early yellow card did not deter him from snapping into challenges. Had his hands in his head after failing to make the most of a good opportunity towards the end of the first-half.

Savio 8: Electric and frustrating in equal measure. He linked up well with Udogie, but while there was plenty to like about his performance, his end product let him down. A threat off the left and right wing, and Solanke had to do better when found by the Brazilian with the goal gaping.

Electric: SavioAFP/GettyDominic Solanke 7: A huge goal for Spurs and their No19. Anonymous for large parts, he had to score when the ball fell to him free inside the box after a mistake from Lammens. In the end, though, it was the Englishman who stayed alert to head home the equalising goal.

Mohammed Kudus 8: Impressive on his first league start since January. The Ghanaian was aggressive, direct and physical but squandered an excellent first-half chance after Savio’s cutback found him free in the area.

Rodrigo Bentancur 1: A complete lack of discipline from the Uruguayan, who was sent off for putting his head into Luke Shaw following a shove from the United defender. De Zerbi likes Bentancur, but he was let down big time by him here.

Omar Marmoush 5: Did not offer an awful lot off the bench, but it didn’t matter in the end as Solanke stole in to equalise.

James Maddison 7: Gave Spurs more control, allowing them to gain a second wind and steal an equaliser. Spurs are much better with him in the team.

Micky van de Ven 6: Started on the bench after playing four times over the international break. He gave Spurs more security at the back just as the game threatened to unravel.

Mateus Fernandes 6: Kept things ticking as Spurs came on strong late on. Clear he still does not have the full trust of De Zerbi in games where he feels Spurs might get overwhelmed in the middle of the park.

Unused subs: Dubravka, Tosin, Tel, Davies
