Today’s Headlines: Tinubu Must Go By Fire, Thunder-Fayose, Hold Leaders Accountable-Osinbajo

Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has called on Nigerians to join hands in unison and vote President Bola Tinubu out in the 2027 general elections.

Fayose made this call in a video he posted on his official Facebook page on Friday as Nigerians count 97 days to the 2027 polls.

He slammed the current economic state of the country, specifically focusing on the widening gap between the rich and the poor.

According to him, prosperity requires a circulating economy where wealth supports various sectors rather than being hoarded by a few individuals.

Former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday called on Nigerians to hold political leaders accountable and demand strict compliance with the rule of law, warning that the country will continue to move in cycles unless citizens unite to elect credible leaders and insist on accountability.

Osinbajo spoke in Lagos as the guest speaker at the 2026 Annual Lecture of the Anthony Cardinal Okogie Foundation (ACOF), with the theme, “Rule of Law in Nigeria: The Challenges of Leadership Compliance,” organised by the Lagos Archdiocese Catholic Men Organisation of Nigeria (LACMON).

He said although politicians everywhere were known to over-promise during election campaigns, citizens had a responsibility to challenge their promises and ensure that those elected were capable of delivering on their commitments.

Mike Ditka, a larger-than-life coaching legend for the Chicago Bears who won two NFL titles as both a player and coach, died on Friday, his family announced. He was 86.

Ditka, the fifth overall pick in the 1961 NFL Draft, played as a tight end from 1961-1972 and helped the Bears win the 1963 league crown.

He also caught a touchdown pass for Dallas in the Cowboys’ 1972 Super Bowl triumph.

As a coach, Ditka guided the Bears to victory in the 1986 Super Bowl, the 46-10 rout of New England ending a 23-year title drought for the team and the city. He was also an assistant coach for the Cowboys in their 1978 Super Bowl triumph over Denver.

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, youths in Cross River State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu for a second term in office.

The endorsement came during the official unveiling of a youth-based political support group, the Evidence Group, held on Friday in Ogoja Local Government Area of the state.

The group, which said its mandate is to rally grassroots support for the President, the governor and the All Progressives Congress, inaugurated its Ogoja working committee at the event.

Speaking at the unveiling, the Director-General of the group, Eyoma Bassey, said the movement would embark on aggressive mobilisation across campuses and villages in the state.
