They Should Resign Because They Will Not Win – Guru Targets Dumelo’s Seat, Names Two Other MPs
According to a report by Ghbase Daily on Saturday October 10, 2026, Ghanaian rapper and entertainer Guru has sparked political discussion after expressing confidence that he could defeat three sitting Members of Parliament if he decided to contest in their constituencies.
The musician, whose real name is Maradona Yeboah Adjei, identified Ayawaso West Wuogon, Nkoranza South and Nkoranza North as constituencies where he believes he would have a strong chance of winning a parliamentary election.
Speaking on Okay FM on Saturday, Guru issued a bold challenge to the lawmakers representing the three constituencies, suggesting that they would struggle to retain their seats if he entered the race.
“If I decide to contest for MP in Ayawaso, Nkoranza South or Nkoranza North, the MPs there should resign because they will not win,” he said.
His comments have drawn attention because Ayawaso West Wuogon is currently represented by John Dumelo, the popular actor-turned-politician who won the parliamentary seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general election.
Dumelo’s entry into Parliament marked a major political milestone for the actor, who had previously contested the same constituency in the 2020 election but lost to the New Patriotic Party’s Lydia Seyram Alhassan.
Guru’s decision to mention Ayawaso West Wuogon alongside Nkoranza South and Nkoranza North has therefore placed his remarks at the centre of conversations about his possible involvement in Ghanaian politics.
However, the musician has not formally announced plans to contest any of the three parliamentary seats. His comments were presented as an expression of confidence in his ability to win rather than an official declaration of a political campaign.
Explaining the basis of his confidence, Guru referred to his experience as President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) at the University of Ghana, where he said he worked to address concerns affecting students.
He cited initiatives and achievements that included a 25 per cent reduction in hall fees, improvements in student welfare, efforts to improve water supply and advocacy for funding for SRC hostel projects.
By highlighting his student leadership record, Guru appeared to suggest that his experience in representing students and addressing their needs could serve as evidence of his ability to undertake public leadership responsibilities.
His comments also bring attention to the growing intersection between entertainment and politics in Ghana, where personalities from the creative arts have increasingly sought public office or used their platforms to participate in national discussions.
While fame can provide public visibility, parliamentary contests also involve constituency-level organisation, party support, policy positions and voters’ assessments of candidates.
Guru’s remarks do not establish whether he intends to seek a parliamentary nomination or which political party he might represent should he decide to contest. No formal campaign announcement accompanied his statement.
Of the three constituencies mentioned by Guru, Ayawaso West Wuogon has attracted particular interest because of Dumelo’s profile as an entertainer and politician.
Dumelo secured the seat for the NDC in the 2024 election, defeating the NPP’s incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan. His victory followed years of political involvement and an earlier unsuccessful attempt to win the constituency.
Guru’s assertion that the sitting MPs would lose if he contested has consequently introduced a new talking point, although he has not provided details of any campaign strategy, polling evidence or party arrangements to support the prediction.
The identities of the sitting MPs in Nkoranza South and Nkoranza North were also not elaborated upon in the reported comments.
For now, Guru’s statement remains a declaration of confidence rather than confirmation that he will enter the parliamentary race. Whether he eventually moves from expressing interest to formally contesting any of the three constituencies remains to be seen.
