First Rand Bank was started in 1838. It is now owned by First Rand Limited.

Michel Le Roux started Capitec bank in 2001, and as of now, he owns 11% of the company.

Absa was made when Allied, Volkswagen Groups, UBS Holdings, and some parts of Sage Group joined together in 1991. The company that owns it has changed hands over the years, and now Barclays is the owner.

Nedbank was set up in the Netherlands on March 1, 1888. Ned bank has a few shareholders, but Old Mutual is by far the most important one.

John Paterson started the bank in 1962. Several companies own it now, but the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China has the most shares.

In 2016, Deloitte and the MTN group came up with the idea for TYME BANK. Eventually, the bank was sold to ARC, which is a company owned by Patrice.
