Student killed, several injured in clash between student groups

MULTAN   –   A law student was killed while two others sustained serious injuries in a firing incident during a clash between two groups of university students at the university gate on Friday. According to police sources, the deceased student was identified as Anas Ramzan son of Ramzan, who died on the spot after being hit by a bullet. The injured students were identified as Waris son of Fazal Karim, who sustained serious head injuries, and Ali Akbar son of Muhammad Akbar, who suffered a bullet wound to the abdomen. Meanwhile, around a dozen other students also sustained injuries during the clash. The injured were shifted to Nishtar and Alrazi Hospitals, for medical treatment. Police said that the two groups had exchanged harsh words two to three days earlier, but the university teachers and administration had subsequently settled the dispute. However, students allegedly belonging to the Rana Umar group attacked members of the rival group at the university gate on Friday, opening fire and resulting in the fatality and injuries.

Following the incident, SHO Muzaffarabad Sajjad Hussain, along with a police team, reached the university and brought the situation under control.

However, further investigations were underway, police sources added.
