Sports Minister’s Aide Breaks Silence on Driver’s World Cup Disappearance

The Personal Assistant to the Minister of Sports, Hon. Kofi Adams, has finally responded to swirling allegations that the minister’s personal driver was among members of the country’s delegation to the World Cup who failed to return to Ghana after the tournament.

The controversy erupted after reports circulated on social media and in sections of the media claiming that the driver, whose name has not been officially released, stayed behind abroad instead of coming home with the team. The claims sparked public outrage, with many questioning the composition of the delegation and the criteria used to select those who travelled.

In his response, the Personal Assistant described the allegations as misleading and insisted that the matter had been blown out of proportion. He explained that the minister’s driver was not part of the official World Cup delegation and that any suggestion to the contrary was factually incorrect. He added that the driver had travelled on a separate arrangement unrelated to the tournament and that his failure to return was being handled administratively.

The aide further stated that the minister takes such allegations seriously and has ordered an internal review to establish the facts. He urged the public to exercise restraint and avoid spreading unverified information that could damage reputations and distract from the important work of sports development.

He also used the opportunity to address broader concerns about accountability in national assignments. He acknowledged that Ghanaians have every right to demand transparency whenever public funds are used for international engagements, and he assured that the ministry would cooperate with any legitimate investigation.

Some sports analysts have welcomed the clarification but insist that the ministry must go further by publishing the full list of the delegation and the cost incurred. They argue that only full disclosure will put the matter to rest and restore public confidence.

The minister’s office has promised to issue a comprehensive statement in the coming days. Until then, the issue remains a subject of intense public discussion, with many Ghanaians awaiting concrete answers about who travelled, at whose expense, and why some have not returned.
