‘Six years may have passed, but justice has no expiry date’: Hawks arrest three over cops murder
Ask AI 1minThe Limpopo Hawks have made a breakthrough in the six-year-old murder case of former Groblersdal police station commander Colonel Lebyane Jeffrey Seroka.
The Limpopo Hawks have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Colonel Lebyane Jeffrey Seroka, the former station commander of Groblersdal Police Station, who was fatally shot outside his home six years ago.
The suspects, two women aged 51 and 41 and a 56-year-old man, were arrested on Friday night, 9 October 2026, in the Nkoana area of Limpopo’s Sekhukhune District.
Seroka was shot dead by unknown assailants outside his residence in Maganagobuswa Village, within the Dennilton policing area.
Hawks spokesperson Colonel Avele Fumba said the perpetrators allegedly fled with Seroka’s motor vehicle following the shooting.
The vehicle was later recovered abandoned along the Dennilton-Maklerekeng road.
He said the breakthrough followed sustained investigative efforts by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation teams in Polokwane and at head office.
“Despite the passage of six years, investigators continued to pursue leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those allegedly responsible.”
Fumba said the investigation remained ongoing, with the team following additional leads and working to establish the respective roles of those implicated in the crime.
“Further arrests are anticipated as investigative efforts continue.”
The Hawks have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and share it with the authorities.
Limpopo Hawks provincial head Major General (Adv) Gopz Govender commended the investigation team for its persistence and reaffirmed the Hawks’ commitment to ensuring that those responsible were brought to justice.
“Six years may have passed, but justice has no expiry date.”
Govender said Seroka had dedicated his life to serving the country and that his killing would not be forgotten.
“Our investigation continues, and we will follow every credible lead to ensure that those implicated are brought before the courts to answer to the allegations against them.”
The suspects are expected to appear before the Moutse Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 12, 2026.
They face charges including conspiracy to commit murder, murder, vehicle hijacking, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.
