SA Trader Who Risked His Own Life to Save SA Lady From Being Killed By Her Boyfriend Is Being Praise

A Johannesburg informal trader has been commended for his bravery after he allegedly risked his own life to rescue a young woman who was allegedly being repeatedly stabbed by her former lover near the Bree Street Taxi Rank.

Sibusiso Ngcobo, the secretary-general of informal merchants at the taxi rank, initially believed that 26-year-old Boitumelo Mazibuko had fallen and required assistance. However, as he approached her, he realised that she was being violently assaulted by a man who was repeatedly stabbing her.

Mazibuko’s erstwhile boyfriend, 45-year-old taxi driver Siyabonga Msimanga, was identified as the alleged attacker. Mazibuko was lying on the ground when Msimanga stabbed her in various locations on her body, including the back of her neck and the area between her breasts, according to Ngcobo.

According to reports, Mazibuko was able to regain her footing and make an attempt to flee; however, the perpetrator pursued her, apprehended her, and compelled her to the ground once more. Ngcobo was convinced at that juncture that the attacker had the intention of killing her.

Ngcobo allegedly charged toward Msimanga and delivered a forceful head blow to him as he allegedly attempted to sever Mazibuko’s throat. The intervention resulted in the suspect losing his balance, which provided an opportunity to halt the assault. Msimanga allegedly retrieved the knife and pursued Ngcobo before ultimately fleeing the scene.

The assault was reportedly witnessed by numerous individuals, who were reportedly apprehensive about intervening physically due to the suspect’s reputation for violent behaviour and his recognition within the taxi community. Ngcobo subsequently stated that taxi drivers cautioned him about the potential peril of confronting the man. In spite of the warnings, he insisted that he could not remain indifferent to the murder of a woman.

Mazibuko was able to survive the assault and was subsequently admitted to intensive care. Despite the fact that she has since been discharged from the ICU, she continues to be hospitalised and anticipates a challenging recovery. Her mother, Lebohang Zikode, stated that her daughter had lost sensation in her left limb, which she suspected was due to the damage of a nerve near her spine by one of the stab wounds.

Zikode also claimed that Msimanga contacted her following the attack, confessed to stabbing Mazibuko, and requested forgiveness. He reportedly proposed paying R20,000 as a form of reparation for the damage caused and offered to send members of his family from KwaZulu-Natal to apologise. Zikode rejected the notion that money could serve as a form of compensation for the imminent loss of her daughter’s life.

The police have confirmed that an attempted murder case is currently being investigated. The suspect was apprehended and appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on October 2.
