Cristiano Ronaldo moved closer to the historic 1,000-goal milestone after scoring his 980th career goal in Al-Nassr’s 3–0 victory over Al-Diriyah in the Saudi Pro League.
The Portuguese superstar found the net in the 23rd minute at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh on Friday, October 9, 2026, marking his return to club football with another significant career achievement.
Ronaldo reacted quickly to a rebound after Al-Nassr teammate Kingsley Coman’s effort was parried by Al-Diriyah goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah before finishing into the net.
The goal took the 41-year-old forward’s combined tally for club and country to 980, leaving him only 20 goals away from the unprecedented landmark.
According to reports, his career total comprises 834 goals at club level and 146 for Portugal’s national team.
Ronaldo’s opener gave Al-Nassr the breakthrough before Samu Costa doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 35th minute.
Costa headed home João Félix’s corner to put Al-Nassr in a commanding position before half-time.
Al-Nassr maintained control after the interval, with Coman completing the scoring in the 77th minute following a counterattack initiated by Sadio Mané.
The 3–0 victory strengthened Al-Nassr’s position in the Saudi Pro League title race, with the club moving to 19 points after eight matches and joining Al-Qadsiah at the top of the standings at the time.
For Ronaldo, the result was another important step in his pursuit of a milestone that could further cement his place in football history.
Ronaldo’s latest achievement came after a turbulent international break that attracted attention over his relationship with Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus.
Reports indicated that the forward left Portugal’s national team camp following a disagreement over playing time during the international fixtures.
The incident sparked speculation about his international future, although Ronaldo subsequently reaffirmed his willingness to continue representing Portugal.
His return to Al-Nassr shifted the focus back to his performances on the pitch, where he remains central to the club’s ambitions.
The striker’s goal against Al-Diriyah also provided a timely boost as Al-Nassr continued its pursuit of domestic success.
With 980 career goals, Ronaldo is now 20 strikes away from reaching 1,000 official goals for club and country.
The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus forward has built his career around extraordinary scoring consistency, winning major domestic and international honours along the way.
His pursuit of 1,000 goals has become one of the most closely followed milestones in world football, particularly as he continues to score in Saudi Arabia at the age of 41.
Although the timing of the landmark will depend on his fitness, appearances and scoring form, his latest strike brings the target closer.
For now, Ronaldo can celebrate another milestone and an important Al-Nassr victory as the Saudi Pro League campaign gathers momentum.
