Punjab approves Rs10bn subsidy to curb flour prices
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a Rs10 billion subsidy to provide flour at affordable prices after expressing strong displeasure over rising prices in the province.
Chairing an emergency meeting via video link, the chief minister directed officials to ensure the availability of affordable flour and wheat under all circumstances.
The meeting decided to increase the quota of subsidised government wheat supplied to flour mills at Rs3,800 per maund. Participants also agreed on a Rs10bn subsidy to ensure flour was available at reduced prices, which CM Nawaz subsequently approved.
She directed the relevant authorities to use all available resources to keep flour affordable.
“The burden of inflation on the people of Punjab is extremely painful,” she said, adding that the government would utilise all available resources to provide affordable flour.
The chief minister said the provision of subsidised flour and affordable roti would continue, warning that negligence in this regard would not be tolerated.
