PREVIEW | FC Barcelona v Getafe

PREVIEW | FC Barcelona v Getafe

This Saturday, FC Barcelona are back in action at last. Following a three-week break for international football, La Liga finally kicks back into action this weekend, with the Catalans looking to carry on where they left things in mid-September…. winning.

And not just winning, but winning in style. Hansi Flick has guided the team to one its most spectacular starts to a campaign ever. Seven straight wins, scoring five or even more goals in five of them (31 in total), is just one win less than their best ever start to a league season (eight under Gerardo Martino in 2013/14).

That’s a record they could match when they take on Getafe at 6.30pm CEST at Spotify Camp Nou, and it’s one that has left the team a massive five points clear of second-placed Atlético Madrid and Real Betis at this remarkably early stage of the competition.

The visitors, coached by José Bordalás have been having a decent enough season at their home in southern Madrid, enough to place them eleventh in the table, but on the road things have thus far been less impressive. There straight defeats away from home, and not a single goal scored and now they are up against a team who, in their last home fixture, put seven past Racing Santander.

After an impressive seventh place finish in 2025-26, Getafe were looking forward to a rare jaunt into Europe this term, but sadly their Conference League hopes were blasted by Partizan Belgrade in the playoffs.

History isn’t really on Getafe’s side either. They are on a huge run of 21 games without a league win away to Barça, and they have lost the last four without scoring a once. Not even with home advantage have they been able to beat Barça since 2020.

That’s all good news for Barça, but the talking has to be done on the pitch. Which is something the team has certainly been doing this season!

If one player has stoof out above all others in the initial stretch of the season, that man is Raphinha. Including hat-tricks in his last two outings, the Brazilian has amassed an extraordinary 12 goals already. However, he has picked up a minor thigh injury while representing his country and Hansi Flick has confirmed that he will miss both this game and Tuesday’s Champions League encounter wituh Galatasaray.

Frenkie de Jong has been back training with the team this week, but it seems he’s still not quite ready for match action. Roony Bardghji and Andreas Christensen are also out, but both Joan Garcia and Eric Garcia are ready and waiting to play.

The game could also see Jules Kounde make history, as an appearance would see him become the all-time appearance maker among FC Barcelona’s French players. The blaugrana number 23 is currently tied on 193 appearances with Eric Abidal. It would also mark Gerard Martin’s 100th appearance for the club.

Getafe are certainly without Juanmi and Christantus Uche, while there are also doubts concerning Abdel Abqar and former Barça Atlètic player Kiko Femenia.
