Prepare for Heavy Rains Over the Next 4 Days if You Live in These Regions, Kenya Met Warns
Kenya Meteorological Service has forecast rainfall in Nairobi and several other parts of the country between Saturday, October 10, and Tuesday, October 13, 2026, with some areas expected to experience thunderstorms and heavy showers.
According to the weather forecast, rainfall will affect parts of Central Kenya, the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, Northern Kenya, the Coast region and areas around the Lake Victoria basin.
In Nairobi, residents are expected to experience light rain in the morning and moderate showers in the afternoon on Saturday. Light showers are forecast to continue on Sunday and Monday.
In the Central region, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a and Kiambu are expected to receive light morning rainfall throughout the weekend, with some areas likely to experience showers in the afternoon and at night. Nyandarua will also receive light morning rains on Saturday and Sunday, followed by afternoon showers.
Several counties in the Eastern region, including Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Machakos and Makueni, are also expected to receive rainfall during the forecast period.
Western Kenya is among the areas likely to experience heavier rainfall. Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia are forecast to receive heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms.
In Kisumu and Siaya, afternoon rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, while mornings are likely to remain sunny. Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira are also expected to experience rainfall, with moderate showers, thunderstorms and lightning forecast in Kisii and Nyamira on Saturday and Sunday.
In the Rift Valley, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo, Kericho and Bomet are expected to receive afternoon showers, with thunderstorms and lightning likely in several areas.
Along the Coast, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu are forecast to receive light to moderate showers over the weekend. Tana River is expected to experience light daytime rainfall.
Beyond the rainfall forecast, Kenya Met has warned of chilly nights in several parts of the country, with Nyandarua expected to record the lowest minimum temperatures.
Night temperatures in Nyandarua are forecast to fall to 6°C on Saturday before dropping to 5°C on Sunday and remaining at that level on Monday.
Laikipia is expected to record minimum temperatures of 10°C on Saturday, while Samburu will experience night temperatures of 11°C on Saturday and 12°C on Sunday. West Pokot, Kericho, Narok and Nandi are also expected to experience cool nights, with minimum temperatures ranging between 10°C and 15°C over the weekend.
In Nairobi, night temperatures are forecast to reach a low of 14°C on Saturday and Sunday, while daytime temperatures could rise to 28°C.
Residents and motorists, particularly in areas prone to flooding, should remain cautious during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
