“Peter Obi Should Have Listened to My Advice. Obi, You Are in the Wrong Political Party” — Primate Elijah Ayodele

Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has advised Peter Obi to reconsider his political decisions, claiming that the former Anambra State governor made a mistake by choosing his current political platform ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Ayodele made the statement in a video shared on his official Facebook page on Friday, October 9, 2026. During his remarks, the cleric maintained that Obi should have followed the political advice he previously gave him.

Speaking in the video, Ayodele said: “Obi should have listened to my advice. Obi, you are in the wrong political party.”

The cleric’s comments come amid changes in Obi’s political affiliation as he prepares for another attempt at the presidency in 2027. The former governor has moved between political platforms since contesting the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party.

Obi became a prominent opposition figure during the 2023 election after running on the Labour Party platform. However, developments within the party and subsequent political calculations preceded his departure as he explored other platforms ahead of the next general election.

On December 31, 2025, Obi reportedly joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before leaving the party for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in May 2026.

His decision to join the NDC followed disagreements and concerns surrounding the political situation within the ADC. Former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso also joined the NDC, with both politicians seeking to advance their political ambitions through the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

On May 30, 2026, the NDC announced Obi as its presidential candidate for the forthcoming general election. Obi subsequently named Kwankwaso as his running mate, establishing the party’s presidential ticket.
