Makkah alliance’s objective is to defend Saudi Arabia: DG ISPR

ISLAMABAD  –  Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan is committed to a negotiated and peaceful outcome of Iran-US conflict.

In an interview with CNN, he said Pakistan has been and will continue to do whatever possible and whatever necessary so that the differences and gaps narrow down and there is a negotiated and peaceful outcome of this conflict.

The DG ISPR said Pakistan wants that this conflict should not expand horizontally or vertically. He said Pakistan has been a very honest broker.  He said we have a stake in regional peace and stability.

Responding to a question, the DG ISPR said Pakistan’s forces have been there in Saudi Arabia for decades with multiple capabilities and domains. He said Makkah Alliance is not something that has come out in vaccum, emphasising there is a sustained diplomatic, political, military and people to people relationship between Pakistan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Turkiye. He said Makkah Accord, its actualisation and whatever effects it achieves that will be purely defensive.

The DG ISPR said all the three countries have potent military, diplomatic and other capabilities. He said the objective of this alliance is not to start labelling enemies and friends, he said, stressing the objective is the defence of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Harmain Sharifian and that will be done.

Lt-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that the agreement was not intended to label any country as a friend or enemy, but rather to ensure regional security and defend Saudi Arabia against potential threats.

Under the agreement’s collective-defence principle, an attack on one partner would be considered an attack on all, serving as a deterrent against potential aggression. He said the combined military and diplomatic capabilities of the participating countries would compel potential aggressors to think twice before pursuing hostile actions.

He said Islamabad had previously facilitated dialogue, was continuing its efforts and would remain engaged in initiatives aimed at narrowing differences between the warring parties.

He said that Pakistan wanted to prevent the conflict from spreading further, warning that any wider escalation would undermine regional peace and stability.

The DG ISPR said Pakistan had played an important role in efforts to facilitate a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran while maintaining an honest and balanced approach towards all regional partners.

He said that Pakistan’s national interests were closely linked to regional peace and stability, and Islamabad had consistently conveyed to its partners that further escalation would benefit no one.
