During the college football morning show, the Ohio State alum had to answer the tough question of who he thinks is the best team in the country… so far. The usual players were on the board, from 4-0 Texas taking the top seed, to 4-1 LSU taking the 10. “Well, there’s so many options, here’s Alabama (5-0) out there,” he observed as surrounding fans cheered. But nope. “There’s Georgia (5-0) out there. There’s the team that I picked preseason out there (Notre Dame), there’s Ohio State that’s lost, they’re looking good.” However, Herbstreit went with his gut and surprised everyone. “I think the best team right now in college football resides in Miami of Florida,” he revealed. “Darrius Minster, the quarterback, Damon Wilson despite all the injuries on that defense – the Canes are only going to get healthier. Right now, I give Miami the nod. Best team in the country.” The Hurricanes are first in the ACC and have been utterly dismantling their opponents, including winning 41-13 over Clemson, and 52-3 over Central MI. However, since they’re banged up, they’re in need of a bye after losing starter Max Buchanan and DL Marquise Lightfoot.
