PM says suspect will be punished in accordance with law
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the apparent suicide of a 24-year-old student of the International Islamic University Islamabad and directed the Islamabad Inspector General of Police and chief commissioner to arrest the suspect accused of defrauding her family.
The prime minister has termed the young student’s death as deeply tragic and said the suspect would be arrested immediately and punished in accordance with the law.
The student, who had completed her bachelor’s degree with a gold medal, had hoped to pursue higher education in the United States. Her family alleged that an education consultant defrauded them of millions of rupees by providing fake admission and visa documents.
She was found hanging from a tree along a green belt near Islamabad’s Sunday Bazaar. Police initially treated the incident as an apparent suicide. However, the exact cause and circumstances of her death remain under investigation.
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director Shahzad Bukhari has also taken notice of the case and contacted the student’s family to obtain details of the alleged fraud.
The case has raised concerns over alleged education consultancy fraud and the devastating consequences it can have for students and their families.
