JUST like King David did in the Holy Bible, he loves the Lord with the whole of his heart. He takes delight in constantly blowing his trumpet to eulogize God Almighty. In all he does, he worships the Lord, always remembering how Jehovah has led him all through the adventures of life, still holding him by the invisible hands. This man after God’s own heart, Nathaniel Ndianaabasi Bassey, a worship minister who enjoys praising God in different songs and languages had no public pretense of his affection to his creator. Just as King David played the harp (or lyre) in the scriptures, Pastor Nathaniel blows the trumpet to bring down the cloud of the Lord’s glory and presence wherever he performs.

From his childhood, he knew he had the calling and was anointed by the Lord. He followed the prophecy and vision and refused to be distracted by the mundane things of life and circumstances around him. He kept his heart pure, regularly ascending Mount Zion-the Sanctuary (Holy Hill) of God, entering His Gate in praise and thanksgiving ministering to the people that: “This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it”.

A major fulfilment of God’s prophecy in his life came about in June 2017, when God spoke to him to commence the momentous #HallelujahChallenge. Bassey held the vision and ran along with it, believing that when the Lord makes a way, He will make provisions to go with it.

This led to a scenario where him and other believers worship God for an hour, from 12:00 am to 1:00 am. He streams this event on his Instagram, Facebook and YouTube pages and invites others to join him. In less than a month, the event had over 600,000 views. The #HallelujahChallenge for 2020 was held from 4 to 24 February 2020. In 2021, the challenge was held from 1 to 21 February. #HallelujahChallenge2025 was held from February 10 to March 1, 2025.

Bassey started his musical career in the church, where he then joined the Rhodes Orchestra and played the trumpet for two years. He was a trumpeter who composed a song at the visit to Stella Obasanjo, the late wife of former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo.

In 2004, he featured in the album “New Jazz Stew Project: Revelation” alongside top jazz performers like Wole Oni and Yinka Davies.

In 2018, Bassey was one of the leading artistes in the Nigerian Christian gathering – The Experience. His debut album, Elohim, was recorded and mixed in Cape Town, South Africa, in the year 2008. It has been described as a spiritual and artistic masterpiece with the hit track, “Someone’s knocking at the door,” a soft-rock tune currently generating so much interest locally and internationally.

As stated in Proverbs 18:16, Bassey learnt that “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.” And he didn’t forget how the journey started, as reflected in Zechariah 4:10 “Do not despise small beginnings, as the Lord rejoices to see the work begin”, this humble, quiet lover of Elohim- a Hebrew word that serves as a title or name for Yahweh, emphasizing His supreme power, majesty, and role as the Creator of the universe continually give thanks to God in season and out of season.

Not surprising, he was specially invited to United States President Donald Trump Inaugural Prayer Breakfast on January 20, 2025, in Washington, D.C.

Bassey ministered at the faith-based, non-partisan Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast, in a gathering that took place at the Waldorf Astoria Presidential Ballroom ahead of the presidential inauguration.

He led a worship session, played his signature trumpet, and performed songs including “See What the Lord Has Done” while offering prayers for the then incoming administration. His story is a reminder that we should all hold unto whatsoever promises God has given to us because “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” has found in Matthew 24:35.

For his academic education, he studied International Relations and Politics at the University of Lagos, with additional studies in Politics and International Relations in London, and music business and popular music at Middlesex University Summer School.

For the record, Bassey was born in Lagos, Nigeria, on 27 August 1981. He is originally from Ikot Ofon Ikono, Uyo local government area in Akwa-Ibom state, south-south Nigeria. Mr. E. Joshua Bassey, his father, was a minister in the Apostolic Church Bashua Assembly.

He is a minstrel, pastor, trumpeter and gospel songwriter popularly known for his songs “Imela”, “Onise Iyanu”, and “Olowogbogboro.” Over the years, Bassey has established himself as one of the prominent and most listened-to gospel ministers in Nigeria. His music spans across different genres such as jazz, worship, hymns and medley.

He attends The Redeemed Christian Church Of God and pastors The Oasis Lagos, the youth church of the RCCG Kings Court in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Bassey is happily married to Sarah Bassey. They got married in the year 2013.
