‘I no longer think about the injury when I play as it’s over now’ – Ghana’s Ernest Nuamah talks about his ACL injury last season
The 22-year-old wide-man, who ruptured his left knee ligaments last season, says he has now shrugged off the injury setback even though it was hard to take given its terrible condition
Ghana international winger Ernest Nuamah has opened up about his ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury during their Ligue 1 game against LOSC Lille on April 5, 2025.
The former FC Nordsjælland attacking midfielder had to spent several months on the sidelines before returning to full fitness on May 3, 2026, to feature in Lyon’s 4-2 victory against Rennes in the Ligue 1 this term.
Following his bright start to the current campaign, the Right to Dream academy product is eager to give of his best to Les Gones both domestically and continentally after returning to the pitch in great fashion.
Speaking in an interview, the Black Stars winger has told French tabloid newspaper L’Équipe: ”For me, the injury is over now. It was hard to deal with, but I’m back. I’m doing everything I can to help the team. They need me. I think that’s what everyone expects, what everyone wants.
He added: ”Of course. I wouldn’t say I had my concerns. It took time. Today I’ve come out of the zone where I felt uncomfortable. I no longer think about the injury when I play.”
”I have had a lot of support from my friends and family. I was often alone and had no choice. I needed someone to encourage me. They helped me a lot to get through that ordeal.
”I am very happy to be on a good team. The season has started well. Unfortunately we did not qualify for the Champions League, but the focus is on the league, where the team is performing well collectively.”
Nuamah has so far taken in 9 appearances by scoring 4 goals and setting up 1 across all competitions for the Parc Olympique Lyonnais outfit in this ongoing 26/27 football season.
On the international scene, the left-footed wide-man has won 24 caps for the Ghana national football team, with 5 goals to his name so far in his international football career.
