I Have Abandoned My Farm For More Than Three Years Now –Atiku Calls For Tinubu To Leave Office

According to a report by Arise news on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, has called for President Bola Tinubu to leave office, accusing his administration of bringing poverty and hardship to Nigerians over the past three years.

Atiku criticised the government’s economic record, pointing to rising food prices, transportation costs, struggling businesses and insecurity affecting farmers.

He argued that these challenges have made everyday life increasingly difficult for citizens.

In his statement, the former vice president said the cost of food continued to rise whenever Nigerians visited markets.

He also linked the cost of travelling to work with the pressure on workers’ salaries, while describing the difficulties facing businesses.

“The cost of food keeps rising every time we go to the market. That is what Tinubu has given us, a journey to work that eats into our salaries, businesses struggling to stay afloat, and farms we are too afraid to visit. I have abandoned my farm for more than three years now, even though it used to be the largest farm in my state. This is the record he expects Nigerians to applaud,” Atiku said.

He used his personal experience with farming to illustrate his concerns about insecurity and its effect on agricultural activities.

According to his statement, he has not returned to his farm for more than three years because of the prevailing circumstances.

Atiku’s remarks amount to a criticism of Tinubu’s handling of the economy and national security since taking office in May 2023.

His comments place food affordability, household expenses, business survival and farmers’ safety at the centre of his assessment of the administration.

The ADC figure’s call for Tinubu to leave office also signals his opposition to the President’s continued leadership.

However, the statement presents Atiku’s political assessment of the administration, rather than an independent evaluation of its economic performance.
