“I Am a Member But I Will Tell Truth, NPP Sank Ghana” – Dennis Miracles Defend Chief Justice
Former Director of Communications at the Presidency and New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Dennis Miracles Aboagye has openly criticised aspects of his own party’s record while defending some decisions of the current administration.
Speaking on Joy News, Aboagye defended Acting Chief Justice Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie following criticism from some NPP members over remarks praising the John Dramani Mahama administration.
He argued that there was nothing inappropriate about the Acting Chief Justice acknowledging the government’s performance if he believed it deserved recognition. Aboagye said the judge, like every other Ghanaian, has the right to observe developments in the country and comment on them.
According to him, Ghanaians should avoid turning every statement by public officials into a political issue. He maintained that commending government policies or achievements is not, in itself, a political act or a violation of constitutional principles.
Aboagye also supported the government’s decision to dissolve inactive boards of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). He argued that some boards established under the previous administration had become ineffective, with members allegedly receiving sitting allowances despite failing to perform their expected duties.
He said dissolving such boards could help reduce unnecessary public expenditure and improve accountability within state institutions.
The NPP communicator went further by acknowledging shortcomings in his party’s management of the economy during its time in government. He argued that party membership should not prevent him from admitting mistakes or speaking honestly about the country’s challenges.
Aboagye said the NPP’s record included excessive borrowing and weaknesses in the management of some state institutions. He maintained that party communicators should not automatically defend every decision taken by their previous government simply because they belong to the NPP.
His comments have generated contrasting reactions. Some supporters have welcomed his willingness to acknowledge shortcomings within the party, while others have criticised him for publicly admitting that the NPP failed to manage certain aspects of the country effectively.
The remarks also drew attention to his defence of the Acting Chief Justice and the Mahama administration’s decision to restructure inactive SOE boards, highlighting the divisions that can emerge when members of an opposition party openly acknowledge actions by the governing administration.
