Gossip and Selfishness Drove Good Coaches Out – Coach Sarpong
Coach J. E. Sarpong says Ghana has capable football coaches who have stepped away from active coaching not because they lack the ability to do the job, but because of gossip, selfishness, and administrative lapses.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Coach Sarpong lamented that some experienced coaches have stepped aside despite having the skills and knowledge needed to help develop football in the country.
“We have good coaches in the country, but because of gossip and selfishness, they have withdrawn and sat back, not because they cannot do the work. Some also because of administrative lapses,” he said.
He suggested that the challenges surrounding coaching have discouraged some capable professionals from remaining active in the game.
Reflecting on the past, Coach Sarpong said coaches were more readily available when called upon, and players also respected them.
“In those days, it was like that: the coaches, when called, came. The players also respected them,” he said.
