David Kwarteng scored the only goal after seven minutes, giving coach Kassim Ocansey’s side three important points in their bid to qualify for the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The winning move came from a set-piece routine involving Abdul Latif Wunzalgu. His free-kick was initially blocked, but captain Abdul Rafiu Issah followed up before the ball reached Kwarteng, who converted to put Ghana in front.
The Black Starlets produced an attacking performance and created several chances to extend their advantage. They were unable to take those opportunities, however, leaving Togo within reach of an equaliser until the final whistle.
Alidu Issah, Yaw Acheampong and Abdul Latif Wunzalgu each had opportunities to add to Ghana’s lead. The missed chances prevented the Starlets from securing the result more comfortably, despite several promising periods of play.
The victory gives Ghana an important early advantage in their pursuit of a place at the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations through the WAFU Zone B tournament.
It also places the Black Starlets at the top of Group A after hosts Burkina Faso and Benin played out a goalless draw earlier in the day.
Ghana’s next group match is against Benin on Tuesday, October 13. A further positive result would strengthen their position in the qualification race, while Ocansey will want his forwards to be more clinical as the competition continues.
