Football Frenzy Live: Wayne wins shootout, Pittsford upsets undefeated Hilton

Two of the top teams in Class B went head-to-head in a scoring bonanza, with the Wayne Eagles offense doing just enough to hold off Geneva’s comeback attempt.

With 6:23 left in the game, Wayne’s Cody Crandel punched in a short touchdown run that would give the Eagles a 50-34 lead.

Down 16 points, hope looked slim for the Panthers, but a huge 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Travis Tolbert Jr. got them right back in the ballgame. A successful two-point attempt would have made it a one-score game, but the Wayne defense stood strong, keeping the score 50-40.

With time running out, Geneva needed to get their defense off the field, and had a chance as Wayne was forced into a 3rd-and-long. On third down, Eagles quarterback Brodie Newmyer connected with Lucas Welker, who broke a tackle and ran for a first down to all but seal the game. Crandel would later put the official seal on the game with another short rushing touchdown.

Wayne (5-1) will travel to Penn Yan/Dundee on Friday, October 16th. Geneva (4-2) will stay on the road against Newark/Marion on the same evening.

Hilton entered this game undefeated as the 7th-ranked Class A team in New York State, but the red-hot Pittsford Panthers went on the road and shut down the Cadets.

Touchdowns from Hilton’s Calvin Starwald and Pittsford’s Dayshawn Preston tied this game at 7-7.

In the second half, Starwald punched in his second touchdown of the game to pull the Cadets ahead 14-7. Not too long after, Brody Pusateri found Preston again for his second touchdown of the game. That was later followed by Preston’s third touchdown of the game to take a 21-14 lead.

With under two minutes to play, Hilton was met with a “must-have-it” fourth down. On fourth down, Hilton quarterback Matthew Kosiorek sent a prayer down the sideline to Tyler Reger, who came down with the catch, but was called out of bounds.

Pittsford wasted the rest of the clock to give Hilton their first loss of the season.

Pittsford (5-1) will host Webster Schroeder on Friday, October 16th. Hilton (5-1) will look to get back on track in their final game of the season, on the road against Rush-Henrietta on Friday, October 16th.

East and McQuaid went head-to-head in a close battle, with the Eagles holding off a late rally from the Knights to secure the win.

The game was tied 7-7 in the first half before East’s James Mobley Jr. broke through for a seven-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead at halftime.

Mobley Jr. found the end zone again in the third quarter, this time from 11 yards out, extending East’s lead to 21-7.

McQuaid wasn’t going down without a fight. Darquin Windom Jr. punched in a one-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 21-14, setting up a tense finish.

With about a minute remaining, McQuaid had a chance to keep its comeback hopes alive, but Darius Weathers came up with a crucial interception to seal the win for East.

East (4-1) has their next scheduled game for Friday, October 23rd against Rush-Henrietta. McQuaid (2-3) will next host Penfield on Friday, October 16th.

Arcadia and Olympia/Odyssey faced off in the Battle of Greece, with the Titans pulling off a dramatic comeback to earn a 30-29 win.

Arcadia struck first in the opening quarter, as Jackson Childs connected with Drake Sapp for a 50-yard touchdown.

Olympia/Odyssey responded by scoring the next two touchdowns, including a short rushing score from Juliun Carter, to take a 21-8 lead.

The Titans battled back, trailing by just one with about six minutes left in the fourth quarter. Off a touchdown, Arcadia attempted to take the lead with a two-point conversion. Elijah Truesdale powered his way into the end zone, giving Arcadia a one-point lead.

Olympia/Odyssey had one last chance to reclaim the lead, but Arcadia’s defense forced a fumble, and Kemar Pittman recovered to secure the victory.

Greece Arcadia (3-3) will wrap up their regular season at home against Honeoye-Falls Lima on Friday, October 16th. Greece Olympia/Odyssey (1-4) will face Canadaigua on Thursday, October 15th, for their final game of the regular season.
