Eagles release Pro Bowl quarterback Andy Dalton after just one disastrous pass in loss

The Philadelphia Eagles saw Andy Dalton throw one pass and decided they’d seen enough.

Dalton, 38, entered the Eagles’ 27-7 Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears after Jalen Hurts briefly left the game with an injury. The Eagles were down 7-0 in the second quarter and faced third-and-goal from the Bears’ 2-yard line.

The three-time Pro Bowler took the shotgun snap but threw an interception when rookie safety Dillon Thieneman jumped the pass. On Friday, before the team departed for London, the Eagles released Dalton.

After Dalton’s interception, the Eagles promoted Tanner McKee to the backup quarterback role, dropping the former Cincinnati Bengals star to No. 3 on the depth chart. Now, he is no longer with the team.

The Eagles were the sixth team Dalton played for during his NFL career . He was a starter for the first nine years of his career with the Bengals but has since served as a backup for several teams.

Following his nine-year run with the Bengals, the three-time Pro Bowler played for the Dallas Cowboys (one season), Chicago Bears (one season), New Orleans Saints (one season), Carolina Panthers (three seasons) and Eagles.

Dalton had started games for every team he played for except the Eagles.

Dalton has played in 180 games, starting 169 of them, and has compiled an 84-83-2 record. He has completed 62.6% of his passes for 39,793 yards, 254 touchdowns and 152 interceptions.

The Eagles (2-2) will play the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-1) in London at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday.
