DC reviews preparations for anti-polio drive schedule

SUKKUR  –  Deputy Commissioner Shikarpur Dr. Sharjeel Noor Channa chaired a meeting of the District Polio Eradication Committee at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Friday to review preparations for the upcoming anti-polio campaign scheduled to run from November 2 to 8, 2026. The meeting was attended by assistant commissioners from Shikarpur, Garhi Yasin, Khanpur and Lakhi talukas, along with representatives of the police, District Health Office, District Education Department (Primary and Secondary), National Programme, People’s Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI), District Intelligence Branch (DIB), district police focal persons, Union Council Medical Officers (UCMOs) and other relevant officials, said a press release. During the meeting, Mazhar Jamro briefed participants in detail on the arrangements and operational plans for the upcoming campaign.

 He said all necessary preparations were being completed to ensure the successful implementation of the anti-polio drive across the district.

He informed the meeting that Shikarpur district comprises four talukas and 69 union councils. A target of administering polio vaccine drops to more than 310,414 children under the age of five has been set for the campaign.

According to the briefing, 62 Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) centres, 120 EPI vaccinators, 69 Union Council Medical Officers (UCMOs) and 923 mobile vaccination teams will participate in the campaign. In addition, staff from 14 union council partner organisations will assist in monitoring and operational activities to ensure the smooth conduct of the drive.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sharjeel Noor Channa directed all relevant departments and officials to ensure that every target set for the campaign was achieved and that no child under the age of five was missed during vaccination.

He emphasised that polio is a dangerous and potentially disabling disease, and its eradication requires coordinated efforts by parents, health authorities and the district administration.

The deputy commissioner instructed health department officials and polio teams to conduct door-to-door visits and administer polio vaccine drops to all eligible children. He also directed the teams to remain present in their assigned areas throughout the campaign and perform their duties with dedication and responsibility.

Dr. Channa further stressed the importance of providing proper training to polio campaign staff and ensuring strict monitoring of vaccination teams to achieve the 100 per cent target.

He said that a polio-free Pakistan was a collective responsibility and urged parents to cooperate fully with vaccination teams by ensuring that their children received the required polio drops.

The deputy commissioner reiterated that comprehensive planning, effective supervision, well-trained staff and public cooperation were essential to ensuring the success of the upcoming campaign and protecting every child in Shikarpur district from polio.
