Dangote Refinery Reverses Diesel Price Cut, Increases Cost Again
Dangote Refinery has increased its diesel price to ₦1,800 per litre, just days after reducing the cost of the product, raising concerns over another possible increase in retail prices.
According to a report by DAILY POST on Saturday, October 10, 2026, the refinery raised the price of its gantry diesel, also known as Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), by ₦100 per litre from the previous rate of ₦1,700.
The latest increase comes three days after the refinery reduced the price by ₦80, bringing it down from ₦1,780 to ₦1,700 per litre.
A market survey indicated that diesel from Dangote Refinery remained cheaper than products sold by several depot operators, including Pivot, African Terminal and Integrated, which reportedly offered the product at ₦1,905 per litre.
At the new rate of ₦1,800, Dangote Refinery’s diesel was still ₦105 cheaper per litre than the price quoted by the depot owners.
However, the adjustment could lead to further increases in retail diesel prices, particularly in Abuja and neighbouring areas, where the product was reportedly selling between ₦1,960 and ₦1,980 per litre.
The development comes amid rising crude oil prices in the international market; Brent crude was reportedly trading at $104 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate stood at $91 per barrel.
The latest adjustment may add to operating costs for businesses and individuals who depend heavily on diesel for electricity generation, transportation and other daily activities.
