SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A Coeur d’Alene woman was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for stealing over $1 million from her employer in Spokane Valley.

The Department of Justice said the 48-year-old woman had been a human resources manager for the business and oversaw employee benefits, payroll and accounts payable.

The department said that between 2023 and 2025, she stole from her employer by inflating her paychecks and causing payments to vendors to instead be sent to her bank accounts.

ā€œAs a result, the employer fell behind on bills, and the owner had to tap their own funds to keep their employees paid,ā€ the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Idaho wrote in a press release about the sentence.

In total, the woman stole over one million dollars and spent the majority of it at casinos in North Idaho, the Attorney’s Office wrote.

The woman was ordered to be placed on supervised release for three years after completing her prison sentence and to pay $1,040,126.27 in restitution to her former employer.
