Captain Smart Endorses Dismissal of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Calls It Timely and Necessary

Captain Godsbrain Smart, a broadcaster and social commentator, has endorsed the decision to remove Kwabena Mintah Akandoh from his ministerial role, describing accountability as an essential principle of effective governance.

During his television programme, Captain Smart questioned Akandoh’s performance in office and stated that anyone appointed to a government position must demonstrate the ability to fulfil the duties attached to it.

He insisted that public office comes with significant responsibilities and should not be treated merely as a privilege. In his view, officials who cannot meet the demands of their positions should be willing to relinquish their appointments.

The broadcaster also called for ministers to be judged by their achievements and commitment to their responsibilities rather than political interests. He urged the government to strengthen accountability measures and ensure that public officials fulfil their mandates.

His position has prompted discussions about the appropriate standards for evaluating ministerial performance. While some may prioritise measurable results, others may consider public opinion and additional institutional criteria when assessing government officials.
