Cadbury fans praise ‘unbelievable’ chocolate bar that’s just like an 80s favourite

Do you remember this product from the 80s? (Picture: LEON NEAL/AFP via Getty Images) Cadbury has been making and selling chocolate bars for more than 200 years.

And while the classic Dairy Milk is still going strong, some of our favourites have been lost in the last few decades (RIP Flake Snow).

But one ‘unbelievable’ chocolate bar from the 80s seems to be making a comeback.

Do you remember Moro? Shoppers have spotted a chocolate bar with the very same name on shop shelves across the UK once more.

Bargain retailer B&M is currently selling Cadbury Moro Gold bars for 80p each. And while these have been imported from Australia, they’re reminding shoppers of a long-lost Irish sweet treat.

The original Cadbury Moro was sold in Ireland throughout the 80s, 90s and 00s. It featured nougat, shortcake biscuits and caramel, covered in Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate.

There was also a version with peanuts, which replaced the Starbar in 2006, and in 2007, a limited-edition coconut flavour was released, which people dubbed the ‘Bounty Moro’.

All of these disappeared for good in 2015, when Cadbury decided to rebrand Moro as Boost in Ireland.

Despite this, the chocolate bar has remained available in Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East for years.

The Moro Gold bar that you’ll find in B&M is similar to the original Irish Moro, with a chocolate-flavoured centre with crunchy biscuit pieces, surrounded by caramel and wrapped in milk chocolate.

Its release in shops has prompted shoppers to reminisce about the Irish version, which they claim was ‘unbelievable’ and ‘better than Boost’.

Taking to Facebook, Brian Flattery said: ‘These were around in the 90s in Ireland!! Unbelievable!!’

While Bobby Conway commented: ‘Moro was out years ago here in Ireland, then it became a Boost bar, but Moro was a lot nicer.’

Similarly, Kirsty Bradbery wrote: ‘It’s just like a Boost, but I actually thought the chocolate itself was better.’

And Robert White claimed he used to ‘love’ the Moro bars ‘years ago’, as others shared that it ‘looked nice’.

Scott Ferguson added: ‘It’s better than a Boost… bigger and a bit more caramel.’

In other food news, an ’embarrassing’ wine from the 80s has also made a comeback, only now it’s cool.

Blue Nun has had a revival (and a facelift), and Metro’s drink expert Robertson Buckhaven thinks the new version is going to prove a ‘crowd-pleaser’.

It also doesn’t hurt that it’s less than £6 for a bottle at Asda!

And McDonald’s is also bringing the nostalgia, as the fast food chain just confirmed a discontinued fan-favourite is finally returning to the menu.

After 10 years, Snack Wraps are officially back in the UK from October 6, and you can order them from 11am.
