Bruno Guimaraes winner seals Arsenal EPL comeback win
Arsenal came from a goal down to defeat Leeds United 2-1 in the English Premier League match at Emirates stadium.
Ricardo Calafiori scored the equalizer after James Justin put the away side ahead, before Bruno GUimaraes became the EPL champions’ hero on the day as the EPL returned after the international break.
The first half witnessed a counter-attacking Leeds create the better of the few opportunities presented, with Bukayo Saka also heading wide as both sides were deadlocked at halftime.
All changed 10 minutes into the second half as Leeds took the lead through Justin who arrived in the penalty area to lash home Gabriel Gudmundsson’s low cross into the roof of the net.
The lead lasted only seven minutes as Arsenal restored parity through Calafiori who arrived in the box to produce a half volley from Ben White’s header across the face of goal.
Guimaraes, a substitute introduced in the aftermath of Arsenal restoring parity, scored the winner on 70 minutes.
An intricate couple of passes from Arsenal ended with Declan Rice passing into space on the edge of the area where Guimaraes arrived to deliver a precise low shot into the bottom corner for 2-1.
Bukayo Saka should have increased the margin of victory but fluffed his lines twice in the closing stages, and it did not matter as Arsenal returned to winning ways at fulltime, claiming a ninth consecutive win over Leeds United in all competitions.
The Gunners also extended their unbeaten run against Leeds to 17 matches in all competitions, stretching back to 2003 against a Leeds that lost its sixth consecutive match at the Emirates.
Arsenal are now level on 15 points with table toppers Manchester City who play on Sunday.
