“Bawumia Will Never Become President” — Prophet Iddrisu Makes Bold Declaration
A political statement attributed to Prophet Thomas Iddrisu has drawn attention after he reportedly made a strong prediction about Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s chances of becoming Ghana’s president while calling for President John Dramani Mahama to return to power in the 2028 elections.
The statement was reportedly made during a church visit by President Mahama and his delegation. According to a post shared on X by Eddie Wrt, the prophet openly declared his position on the country’s political future, using words that could spark further debate among supporters of Ghana’s major political parties.
“Bawumia will never be mentioned as president in Ghana. If Bawumia ever becomes president, all the chiefs should banish me from their land. Bring President Mahama back in 2028.”
The declaration is striking because it goes beyond expressing support for a preferred candidate. Prophet Iddrisu reportedly attached his personal reputation to his prediction about Bawumia’s political future, making the statement particularly controversial.
However, a prophecy or personal prediction should not be confused with a confirmed political outcome. Ghana’s presidency is decided through elections, and the final result depends on voters, political campaigns, party organisation and other factors that cannot be settled by a public declaration.
Dr. Bawumia, a leading figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), contested the 2024 presidential election against Mahama. Mahama won that election and returned to the presidency in January 2025. The next scheduled presidential election is in 2028, when Ghanaian voters will again have the opportunity to decide who leads the country.
Prophet Iddrisu’s reported call for Mahama’s return therefore comes at a time when attention is gradually turning towards the next electoral contest. Political discussions about 2028 are likely to grow as parties consider their strategies, candidates and messages to voters.
The statement may also raise questions about the role of religious leaders in Ghanaian politics. Some citizens welcome public comments from pastors and prophets on national affairs, while others believe religious leaders should be careful not to present political opinions or predictions as certain outcomes.
