La Liga, Round 8 Barcelona BAR 3 – 0 Full Time Getafe GET Venue Spotify Camp Nou Referee Jesus Gil Manzano Anthony Gordon 2′ Gabriel Jesus 30′ Jules KoundΓ© 73′ Anthony Gordon scored his first goal for Barcelona as they maintained their perfect start to the LaLiga season with a routine 3-0 win over Getafe.
Gordon had failed to score in his first seven games since joining from Newcastle United, though he entered Saturday’s fixture with four assists to his name following an impressive start to his career in Catalonia.
Having scored three times for England during the elongated international break, Gordon broke his Barcelona duck with a deflected effort in the second minute.
Gabriel Jesus made it 2-0 on the half-hour mark, and Jules Kounde made sure the scoreline reflected the hosts’ dominance when he tapped in from close range.
It is now eight wins from eight for Barca, with the win re-establishing their five-point lead over Atletico Madrid at the top of the table.
Gordon broke the deadlock in fortuitous fashion as he let fly from the edge of the area after a fine run, his strike deflecting off the leg of a Getafe defending and leaving goalkeeper David Soria helpless.
Dani Olmo spurned a chance to make it 2-0 after a superb ball to the far post from Gordon, but the second arrived from Jesus, who tucked into the bottom-left corner after Barcelona pressed Zaid Romero into losing possession.
Getafe rarely offered a threat, though Mojica did fire narrowly wide with an ambitious long-range effort, and the visitors were grateful to Soria for keeping the deficit at two when he produced a fine save to deny Olmo.
But there was nothing Soria could do as Kounde timed his run to perfection to meet Yamal’s superb in-swinging cross and turn the ball into the bottom-right corner. That ended any lingering thoughts of a remarkable comeback, and Yamal could have made the scoreline more emphatic late on when he shot wide from Karim Adeyemi’s pull back.
