AVL 2-2 BRE: Match Review And Updated English Premier League Table
According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Aston Villa were held to a 2-2 draw by Brentford in the Premier League after Kristoffer Ajer scored a late equaliser to deny Unai Emeryās side all three points.
Brentford extended their unbeaten start to the league campaign to six matches, while Villa were left disappointed after twice taking the lead during an entertaining encounter.
The visitors struck first in the 10th minute when Yehor Yarmolyuk capitalised on a partially cleared cross from El Hadji Malick Diouf. The midfielder collected the opportunity and guided his effort into the net from the edge of the penalty area.
Villa responded almost immediately, with Emiliano Buendiaās deflected attempt falling kindly for Nicolas Jackson. The forward took advantage of the opportunity and squeezed the ball past the goalkeeper to restore parity.
Following the early exchange of goals, both teams struggled to create clear-cut opportunities as the first half progressed.
Johan Manzambi threatened for Villa on two occasions, but his first effort was blocked by Michael Kayode before Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher denied him on the follow-up.
Brentford also searched for another breakthrough, with Keane Lewis-Potter forcing Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki into action after his effort was blocked at the near post.
Suzuki was called upon again shortly after the restart, getting down well to prevent Kevin Schade from restoring Brentfordās advantage.
At the other end, Buendia came close to putting Villa ahead when his attempt took a deflection off Ajer and bent narrowly wide of the post. The Argentine continued to threaten as the hosts searched for a breakthrough.
Villa eventually moved in front in the 77th minute through captain John McGinn. His effort took a deflection before finding the far corner, leaving the home supporters believing their side had secured a late winner.
However, Brentford responded almost immediately to level the contest for a second time. Ajer advanced from defence, drove into the penalty area and powered his finish past Suzuki at the near post.
The late equaliser ensured that neither side could claim victory after an encounter in which both teams recovered from conceding goals.
Brentfordās draw maintained their unbeaten record after six Premier League matches, although their winless away run in the top flight extended to eight games.
