Akufo-Addo Destroyed The NPP And Ghana–Arthur Kennedy Calls For Akufo Addo To Be Held Accountable

According to a report by TV3Gh, on Saturday October 10, 2026. Former presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Kobina Arthur Kennedy, has launched a strong criticism of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accusing him of damaging both the party and the country during his time in office.

Arthur Kennedy argued that discussions about accountability for the challenges Ghana experienced under the previous administration should not focus solely on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, insisting that Akufo-Addo should also face scrutiny over decisions made during his presidency.

Speaking on TV3’s The KeyPoints programme, the former NPP presidential aspirant expressed dissatisfaction with what he considers an inadequate focus on the former President’s role in the country’s difficulties.

In his assessment of the situation, Arthur Kennedy stated that Nana Akufo-Addo had destroyed both the NPP and Ghana, arguing that responsibility for the challenges associated with the previous administration should extend beyond officials who served under him.

He further stressed that the attention being directed towards Ken Ofori-Atta should not overshadow questions about the former President’s own role in the administration.

“Instead of looking for Ken Ofori-Atta, we must be going after Akufo-Addo,” Arthur Kennedy argued.

His comments place the former President at the centre of a broader debate about accountability for the economic and political difficulties Ghana experienced during the NPP administration.

Ken Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister under Akufo-Addo, was a key figure in the government’s economic management.

His tenure included major fiscal policy decisions and negotiations with international financial institutions as Ghana confronted significant economic pressures.

The country’s economic difficulties, including debt sustainability concerns and the need for an International Monetary Fund-supported programme, became major issues during the previous administration.

These developments also generated criticism of the government’s handling of public finances and economic policy.

Arthur Kennedy’s remarks suggest that, in his view, accountability should not be limited to the former Finance Minister but should also examine the decisions and responsibilities of the President who led the administration.

His criticism also touches on the NPP’s internal challenges following its return to opposition, with questions continuing over the factors that contributed to the party’s electoral performance and its future direction.

The former presidential aspirant’s comments are likely to contribute to discussions within the NPP about leadership, responsibility and the need to rebuild public confidence.

However, his assertion that Akufo-Addo destroyed the party and the country represents his personal political assessment.

Establishing responsibility for Ghana’s economic difficulties and the NPP’s political setbacks requires consideration of the policies, decisions and circumstances surrounding the previous administration.

Arthur Kennedy made the remarks during his appearance on The KeyPoints, broadcast by TV3 Ghana, where political developments and accountability under the previous government were discussed.
