1 year after e-bike crash, survivor visits Marion medical team who saved her life
MARION, Ill. (Heartland News) – Nearly one year after a serious e-bike crash in Marion, Illinois, a woman is thanking the medical team that helped save her life.
Ramsey Uhter returned to Southern Ill. on October 9 for an emotional reunion.
She was riding home from work last October when a truck struck her e-bike. She suffered extensive injuries and spent about a month at SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale before continuing her recovery in Pennsylvania.
Uhter surprised members of her medical team at a trauma symposium at Walker’s Bluff Casino in Carterville.
She says she’s come a long way since the crash.
“I think the craziest part is that, like, my heart stopped in the helicopter. I broke my left collarbone, a few ribs, both my legs, my knee. I tore my ACL. I had to take my spleen out. I had road rash. There’s a whole bunch of stuff going on,” Uhter said. “I’m just really happy. I’m very thankful. It’s crazy getting to see everybody in one room again. I didn’t think that was going to happen.”
Uhter is back at work at a Marion daycare. She says she’s feeling great, and while she’s still working to regain strength and flexibility in one leg, she’s thankful to be getting back to normal.
