Wontumi’s Absence Changed Everything: Mussa Dankwah Drops Bombshell on NPP Chairmanship Election
Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has suggested that Boakye Agyarko might have pulled off an unexpected victory in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairmanship election if former Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, had entered the contest.
Dankwah believes Wontumi’s participation could have altered the distribution of votes among the candidates, particularly those appealing to similar groups of delegates, potentially changing the final outcome.
Speaking on ChannelOne TV’s What The Papers Are Saying on Thursday, October 8, 2026, the pollster explained that Wontumi’s absence influenced the dynamics of the race and the choices available to party delegates.
He argued that Agyarko could have benefited from a different voting pattern if Wontumi had contested, creating an opportunity for an unexpected result.
“I think if he was in the race, that could have given Agyarko a surprise win,” he said.
Dankwah also examined the combined votes obtained by Agyarko and Paul Afoko, noting that their total exceeded the votes secured by the eventual winner.
He suggested that greater cooperation between the two camps could have significantly changed the contest.
“If you look at Boakye Agyarko, and actually if you add Agyarko’s vote and Afoko’s vote, it’s higher than what the winner got. So, it means if these guys had put their heads together, they could have outsmarted the winner,” he said.
According to him, the two candidates appealed to delegates who shared similar views about the direction the NPP should take, meaning a coordinated approach might have strengthened their chances against the winner.
He further observed that Wontumi’s endorsement of the eventual winner may have contributed to the candidate’s electoral advantage.
Beyond the chairmanship contest, Dankwah discussed findings from Global InfoAnalytics on which candidate delegates considered best placed to unite the NPP.
The research placed former party General Secretary John Boadu 13 percentage points ahead of his competitors on the unity question.
He attributed Boadu’s strong showing to his perceived lack of political baggage and his limited record of public statements that could alienate sections of the party.
