Why ‘The Candyman’ may be banned from buying Chantel and Wyatt’s house on The Block

A leaked contract has revealed the extraordinary rule that could prevent multimillionaire businessman Travers ‘The Candyman’ Beynon from buying Wyatt Randall and Chantel Green’s House 2 on The Block.
Speculation has been rife that the Gold Coast businessman could emerge as the couple’s secret weapon when the five Mount Eliza properties finally go under the hammer.
Travers is Chantel’s brother-in-law, and contestant rules from a previous season expressly banned relatives from buying the homes.
Daily Mail has obtained confidential contestant documents from a previous season that detail restrictions on personal connections between contestants and prospective buyers.
Buried inside The Block Contest Rules is a section governing the sale of the properties.
Clause 8.7 sets out a specific restriction.
‘Friends, relatives or associates are not eligible to purchase any of the Properties or to participate in bidding at the Auction of any of the Properties,’ the document states.
While the documents relate to a previous season, there is no suggestion the wording of the 2026 rules is necessarily identical.
However, the historic clause shows Nine previously went further than merely stopping relatives from raising a paddle at the televised auction.
Under those rules, friends, relatives and associates were not eligible to purchase the properties at all.
If the same restriction applies this season, it could spell trouble for one of the biggest theories surrounding House 2.
Chantel’s sister Taesha married the controversial businessman in 2011, meaning the connection between The Candyman and House 2 is considerably closer than some viewers may have realised.
The wealthy businessman became a major talking point on The Block after Chantel and Wyatt’s remarkably relaxed attitude ahead of the auction raised eyebrows among their competitors.
House 4’s Courtney Kain questioned whether the pair had a billionaire ready to swoop in and outbid their rivals.
It wasn’t long before contestants began connecting the dots and The Candyman’s name started circulating around the building site.
Chantel and Wyatt, however, have denied there is any secret deal.
‘At this moment in time Travers is not buying our house,’ Chantel said when confronted with the theory.
She nevertheless laughed about the prospect, while Wyatt joked they might now ask him.
But the leaked historic rules suggest the situation may not be that simple if a comparable restriction remains in force this season.
The family restriction isn’t the only notable condition contained in the confidential documents.
Under the rules from that season, Nine determined the date, time and terms of the public auction in its ‘absolute discretion’.
Even contestants’ choice of real estate agent was tightly controlled.
The documents state teams ‘must not select an agent who is associated with, or known to them, in any way’, while Nine retained the power to veto a chosen agent without providing a reason.
But clause 8.7 is arguably the biggest bombshell – friends and associates were also barred from purchasing the properties.
That wording potentially casts a wider net over prospective buyers who already have a relationship with a contestant.
Another section of the historic rules also emphasises the role of independent bidding at auction.
The contestants’ prize was calculated using the ‘highest genuine, independent bid’ above Nine’s reserve price.
The accompanying Participation Agreement also required contestants to comply with the Contest Rules and Nine’s directions as a condition of remaining in the competition.
The revelation comes as speculation continues to swirl around Chantel and Wyatt ahead of the auction.
House 2 secured 20 per cent of the vote in the recent Domain Buyers Jury challenge, placing them behind Adam and Jolene, who received 29 per cent, and Lisa and Rosco, on 23 per cent.
Chantel remained upbeat despite missing out on the win.
‘Obviously we were hoping for the win, but we just need one buyer,’ she said after the result.
But against the backdrop of the Candyman speculation, the comment attracted further attention.
Their fellow contestants have openly questioned whether Chantel and Wyatt’s confidence could stem from having an extremely wealthy potential buyer in mind.
The couple have categorically denied having one lined up.
If a comparable version of The Block’s previous restriction remains in force, even a willing buyer with very deep pockets may be ineligible if that person is considered a friend, relative or associate.
That could potentially extend beyond The Candyman himself to other prospective buyers from the couple’s social circle, depending on how any current rules are written and applied.
The speculation has already spilled beyond the building site, with the Candyman theory becoming part of the television storyline itself.
For now, Chantel and Wyatt insist there is no wealthy buyer secretly lined up to purchase their home.
But The Block’s historic fine print reveals an awkward potential twist to the theory that having a multimillionaire in the family could give House 2 an auction advantage.
If a comparable rule remains in force in 2026, he could instead be one of the few people who can’t buy their house.
