What Is So Special About The Ghana Tourism Boss That She Remains At Post Despite Report About Her—PK

Ghanaian social commentator P.K. Sarpong has called on President John Dramani Mahama to explain why the chief executive of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) remains in office despite what he describes as controversial reports surrounding her.

In a Facebook post addressed directly to the President, Mr Sarpong questioned whether the government was applying consistent standards of accountability to public officials, drawing a comparison with the reported dismissal of Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah.

He argued that Ghanaians deserved to know why the two cases appeared to be receiving different treatment, particularly if the circumstances surrounding them were comparable.

“What exactly is so special about the Ghana Tourism Authority boss that she remains at post despite the scandalous news reports surrounding her?” he asked.

Mr Sarpong challenged President Mahama to clarify whether there were significant differences between the circumstances involving the GTA chief executive and those that led to Ampofo-Ankrah’s removal from office.

According to the commentator, if the facts in the two cases differed, the government should explain those differences to the public. He also questioned whether any investigation had been conducted into the allegations surrounding the GTA boss and whether the findings had influenced the government’s position.

He maintained that the issue extended beyond the individual involved, arguing that the government’s handling of the matter could raise broader questions about transparency and the application of accountability standards within the administration.

Mr Sarpong further alleged that some government appointees were determined to ensure that the GTA chief executive remained in office, although he did not provide details in the post to substantiate the claim.
