“We Have Missed Him for Sure; We Are Happy He Is Back” — Chelsea Boss on Injured Midfield Star

According to a report by Football London on October 9, 2026, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Moises Caicedo is feeling much better as the midfielder prepares to return to action ahead of the Blues’ Premier League clash against Bournemouth.

The Ecuadorian international has been an important absentee for Chelsea after suffering a calf injury, with the club taking a cautious approach to his recovery to avoid aggravating the problem. Alonso has now provided an encouraging update, expressing his delight at having the midfielder back available.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s meeting with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, Alonso explained how much his team had missed Caicedo’s qualities during his absence.

“Any team missing a player of his quality, his dynamic, we have missed him for sure. We are happy he is back and he feels better. We didn’t want to take risks for Brentford, for example. He feels much better,” Alonso said.

Caicedo’s return represents a significant boost for Chelsea as they look to improve their performances following a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Brentford in their previous Premier League outing.

The 24-year-old midfielder has established himself as a key figure in Chelsea’s midfield because of his energy, defensive awareness and ability to win possession. His work rate also allows his teammates greater freedom to contribute in attacking areas.

Chelsea have struggled to maintain consistency during the early stages of the campaign, making the midfielder’s availability particularly important as Alonso seeks to strengthen his side’s performances in the coming weeks.

Caicedo’s injury problems began earlier in the season after he was introduced as a substitute during Chelsea’s 4-3 victory over Brighton on August 30. He was subsequently forced off after experiencing discomfort, raising concerns about his fitness.

The Ecuadorian had already missed Chelsea’s opening two matches of the campaign, meaning his involvement has been limited. His recovery has therefore been carefully managed by the club’s medical staff.

Alonso previously suggested that Caicedo was close to returning before Chelsea’s trip to Brentford but decided against risking him. The manager’s latest comments indicate that the midfielder has made further progress and is now feeling significantly better.

Chelsea will hope his return can provide greater balance and stability in midfield against Bournemouth, particularly after conceding three goals in their previous league fixture.

However, his availability does not automatically guarantee a starting position, as Alonso must decide how best to manage the midfielder’s workload following his injury.

With several important fixtures approaching, Chelsea will be keen to ensure Caicedo returns fully fit and can contribute consistently throughout the remainder of the season.
