Video footage sent to SA Trucker by a truck driver captures the moments shortly after the crash, with the truck still surrounded by a huge cloud of dust from its cargo.

The trucker, who recorded the scene, said he was the second motorist to arrive after the crash. He told SA Trucker that he and the driver of the first truck to arrive helped the injured truck driver out of his vehicle.

The driver had sustained serious injuries, according to the eyewitness.

Paramedics arrived a short while later and transported the injured driver to hospital for medical treatment.

The circumstances leading to the crash have not yet been established.

The crash was reported at approximately 11:43 on Friday morning, leading to the closure of the affected section of the N4 between the Five Arch Bridge and Waterval Onder.

In an update, TRAC N4 Toll Route confirmed that the road between Five Arch Bridge and Waterval Onder, at N4/6X, kilometre 12.6 eastbound, had reopened following the clearance of the crash scene.

The reopening will allow motorists to resume their journeys through the affected section of Elands Valley.

During the closure, motorists were advised to use Schoemanskloof as an alternative route.

The N4 is a key freight corridor linking Gauteng with Mpumalanga and the Lebombo Border Post, making disruptions along this section particularly significant for truck drivers and other road users.

Motorists are urged to remain cautious when travelling through the area.
