Tinubu Is The Weapon Fashioned Against Nigerians, But We Are Busy Finding Nothing To Bind- Fr. Ugwu

According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, October 9, 2026, Catholic missionary priest serving in The Gambia, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the Federal Government’s decision to introduce a 30-day petrol discount, describing the president as a “weapon fashioned against Nigerians.”

Ugwu expressed doubts about the effectiveness of the initiative, suggesting that the policy was politically motivated and designed to benefit those in government rather than ordinary Nigerians.

The cleric argued that the timing of the petrol discount was significant, linking its introduction to the approaching election season.

He questioned whether Nigerians would genuinely benefit from the temporary price reduction, given what he described as a lack of clear guidelines on how the discount would be implemented.

According to him, the absence of a precise definition of commercial transporters and the quantity of fuel they would be permitted to purchase could create loopholes in the programme.

He also expressed concerns about the possibility of public funds being spent on the initiative without delivering meaningful relief to citizens struggling with the cost of living.

Ugwu further suggested that the government could later announce substantial expenditure on the discount scheme, even if ordinary Nigerians did not experience any noticeable reduction in their fuel expenses.

In his remarks, Ugwu said: “It is election season, they have now come up with a 30-day discount for fuel. You know the funniest part? you won’t see the discount, because there is no clear definition of who is a commercial transporter and what quantity can one buy… but just wait, you will hear how much was spent on the discount. The money is for them.

“As I said, Tinubu is the weapon fashioned against Nigerians, but we are busy searching for what doesn’t concern us to cast and bind.”
