They were deceived by people in authority – Tanko-Computer on visa scandal
Rashid Tanko-Computer has urged authorities to help people who allegedly paid thousands of dollars to secure access to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to recover their money if their claims are substantiated.
The Deputy National Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said some applicants had reportedly paid between $7,000 and $15,000 after being led to believe that people connected to the process could help them travel.
“Those who paid these monies ranging between $7,000 to $15,000, you can’t help them retrieve their money? Please do not insult their intelligence too, because they were deceived by people in authority and they believed them,” he said on Metro TV.
Tanko-Computer argued that the allegations should not be dismissed as trivial, particularly given claims that documents identifying people as National Sports Authority staff were presented in connection with visa applications.
He said the people who allegedly lost money deserved an opportunity to come forward and have their claims investigated.
“If you know you were defrauded, won’t you come forward? You come forward and then you’ll have your day there,” he said.
He added that if the allegations were proven, the affected applicants should be properly compensated.
