SSGC launches Advanced Mobile Gas Leak Detection System for safer communities and ESG Compliance
Demonstrating corporate commitment to operational excellence, communities’ safety and ESG compliance, SSGC positioned itself as Pakistan’s first gas utility company to deploy the state-of-the-art Advanced Mobile Gas Leak Detection System (AMGLDS) designed to proactively identify gas leaks, enabling quick rectification and reduce gas losses on its Distribution Network. The latest technology implementation reflects another pivotal step in SSGC’s sustained technological and innovation superiority.
An impressive formal launch and handover ceremony was held in this regard in the SSGC’s Learning and Development Centre at its Karachi Terminal facility. Amin Rajput, MD, SSGC graced the occasion as chief guest. The Company’s senior management, executives and business partners attended the proceedings. A simple ribbon-cutting was also conducted by the MD.
In his address, MD, SSGC termed the launch as a landmark achievement for the Company as well as for Pakistan’s energy sector. He stated that by unveiling an advanced technological system, SSGC was entering into a new era of safety, environmental stewardship and digital excellence. The investment, he said, reflects our unwavering commitment to protecting our communities, optimizing field resources, modernizing the Company’ infrastructure and conserve critical energy source, with the technology giving us the cutting edge to detect minute gas leaks, enabling teams to rectify well before such leaks develop into public hazards. Further, by deploying the specialized systems, SSGC is transitioning from traditional reactive maintenance to a world-class proactive Asset Integrity Model, the MD reiterated. As a responsible corporate entity, SSGC is taking a direct stand on methane abatement and ESG compliance, he added.
We are demonstrating to the nation that energy delivery and environmental responsibility must go hand in hand, the MD stressed. He congratulated the management team, R&D and operations teams for turning the vision into a reality.
In his speech, Saeed Rizvi, DMD-Operations stated that the deployment of AMGLDSs represents a massive technological upgrade for our field operations. Like in the past, Company has provided the most advanced tool available in the global gas industry to Technical/Operations team thus fundamentally changing how we inspect, detect, diagnose, rectify and maintain gas distribution network. Each units is equipped with ABB’s latest technology fully capable detecting gas leak concentration down to parts-per-billion (PPB) levels, he pointed out. DMD SSGC explained that the system’s powerful algorithms calculate not only the natural gas leak location, but also the estimated leak flow rates, enabling the team to objectively prioritize the Company’s leak rectification plans based on true volume and leak severity. Mr. Rizvi explicitly recognized the contributions and relentless efforts of the Project Team and facilitation and support of concerned interfaces.
In his presentation, Project Lead and HoD-R&D, Muhammad Ali Shah took the attendees through the Project Journey, from conceptualization to implementation stage and narrated critical highlights about the system and customizations to operate effectively in the local environment.
SSGC’s senior management ensured recognition of instrumental efforts in ensuring seamless execution of the project. Special commemorative shields were presented to the dedicated field engineers, project team, project Lead and the OEM partner. Further, in compliance to the company’s system, the AMGLD Unit’s custodianship was handed over from R&D Project department to General Managers of Distribution Division.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Adil Aziz Khan, Divisional Head of R&D department who extended sincere wishes and gratitude towards the Company’s senior management including SGMs, Project Team, Regional Operations/Technical teams, support departments, technology partners and launch event management committee.
