Police car collides with teen e-biker in shocking video

Footage has captured the shocking moment a police car collided with a teenage e-biker on a Victorian road, sending him tumbling across the bitumen.

The teenager was riding an e-bike in a kindergarten car park near Waverley Road in Lara, in Geelong’s north, at about 5.15pm on Wednesday when a marked police car collided with him from behind in a video shared to Facebook.

The cameraman could be heard gasping in disbelief as the collision unfolded in a kindergarten car park.

Another video appeared to show an officer pulling the teenager to his feet before he was seen sitting on the kerb, with the e-bike wedged against the front of the police vehicle.

The footage angered some online, including from a person identified by the Geelong Advertiser as a member of the teenager’s family.

‘They literally started filming because they saw the police coming for him,’ the family member said.

‘No 14-year-old boy deserves this no matter what happened beforehand.

‘He’s not a criminal, no harm in going for a ride with your friends after school.’

‘Well done to Victoria Police, we need to see more of this,’ one person wrote.

The e-biker, who was taken to hospital with minor injuries, appeared to share the video to social media with a caption reading: ‘Never thought I would be next’.

Witnesses told the Geelong Advertiser that prior to the incident, they saw officers giving a group of people that included the teenager a thumbs up after they waved at police.

Victoria Police told the Daily Mail they were aware of the incident.

‘Police observed a group of three youths on e-bikes riding erratically, putting themselves and other members of the public in danger,’ a spokesman said.

‘The group failed to stop and rode into a nearby kindergarten carpark, where a police vehicle collided with one of the riders.’

Victoria Police said Professional Standards Command was investigating following a review of the incident on Thursday morning.

‘As part of the investigation, police are seeking to identify the other teens involved,’ it added.
