PFA meat safety team attacked, 6 officers injured
LAHORE – An enforcement team of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) recovered 1,235kg of dead poultry during an operation at Tollinton Market, after which shopkeepers attacked food safety team when the seized dead poultry was being disposed off. Six Food Safety Officers of Meat Safety Team sustained serious injuries, while the attackers also allegedly struck the officials with bricks, issued death threats and snatched their mobile phones. Two meat shops were sealed after dead poultry was recovered. Food safety team carried out the operation strictly within the legal framework and in accordance with prescribed procedures.

DG said all enforcement actions are conducted on the basis of law, evidence and established SOPs.
DG PFA said that the purpose of such operations is to ensure the provision of safe food to the public. He said that meat is monitored at Tollinton Market from early morning until late at night to ensure compliance with food safety standards. He further stated that Special Meat Safety Task Force conducts regular inspections of poultry at Tollinton Market.
