Oburu Is ‘Dead’ Rumours Take New Twist as Senior Gvnt Official Issues Update After Hospital Visit

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has visited hospitalised Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga in Nairobi, offering reassurance about his recovery after the veteran politician missed the dedication ceremony of his late brother Raila Odinga’s mausoleum in Bondo.

Mudavadi visited Oburu shortly after attending the handover and dedication of Raila’s mausoleum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Siaya County. The ceremony was attended by President William Ruto, members of the Odinga family, national leaders and residents who gathered to honour Raila’s life and political legacy.

According to the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Mudavadi was pleased to find Oburu making good progress in his recovery. He briefed the senator on the events of the ceremony and conveyed the significance of the gathering, which formally marked the handover of the mausoleum to the Odinga family.

Oburu’s absence from the high-profile event had attracted considerable public attention and fuelled speculation about his health. However, a message from the ODM leader was read at the ceremony by his eldest son, Jaoko Oburu.

In the message, Oburu apologised for failing to attend and explained that he was following his doctors’ advice to rest and minimise physical engagements. He also reassured mourners and supporters that his condition had improved significantly and that he remained emotionally connected to the occasion despite being unable to attend physically.

President Ruto had earlier addressed Oburu’s absence while speaking to residents in Bondo, revealing that the senator was dealing with a medical issue and sending greetings on his behalf.

Mudavadi’s hospital visit has provided further reassurance about Oburu’s condition, amid heightened public interest and rumours circulating on social media. The information released by his office indicates that the ODM leader remains under medical supervision and is recovering.

No official statement accompanying the report confirmed the death rumours that had circulated online.
