My Name Is Chinedu My Mom Is Igbo & It’s Something I’m Proud Of, My Dad Is A Lagosian -Rhodes-Vivour

According to Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the ADC presidential candidate in Lagos State, his family has longstanding roots in Lagos, while his maternal heritage is Igbo, an identity he said he is proud of.

Speaking in an interview with Baseline Entertainment, Rhodes-Vivour revealed that his Igbo name is Chinedu and explained that his mother is Igbo. He said his father, however, is from Lagos, stressing that his family has been connected to the city for several generations.

The politician traced his family’s involvement in Lagos to previous generations, particularly through his father’s side. He said his grandfather served as a judge in Lagos, while his great-granduncle was the second indigenous judge appointed in Nigeria. Available historical accounts also identify Steven Bankole Rhodes as a prominent member of the Rhodes-Vivour family and a significant figure in Nigeria’s early judiciary.

Rhodes-Vivour further said his family contributed to the development of Lagos by donating the land on which Lagos City Hall was built. He has made the same claim in previous interviews, describing his family’s history in the city as extending back generations.

He also recalled that his grandfather was buried in Lagos and said the cemetery contains the graves of other prominent figures from the city’s history, including nationalist Herbert Macaulay.

Rhodes-Vivour has previously highlighted his family’s judicial background, including his grandfather Akinwunmi Rhodes-Vivour and his uncle, Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, who served on Nigeria’s Supreme Court. The National Judicial Council confirms that Bode Rhodes-Vivour served as a Justice of the Supreme Court before retiring in 2021.

Speaking about his heritage, Rhodes-Vivour said: “My name is Chinedu and my mother is Igbo, it is something I am proud of. My father is a Lagosian, his grandfather was a judge in Lagos, his great-granduncle was the second judge ever in Nigeria”
