The Mumbai Crime Branch, in a joint operation with civic medical officers, has cracked down on alleged quacks operating clinics without medical degrees or registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council. Raids were conducted at seven clinics across the city, resulting in action against 10 persons allegedly practising medicine illegally. Medicines and medical equipment worth around ₹2.20 lakh were seized during the operation.

According to the police, the accused were allegedly posing as doctors and treating patients despite having neither the required medical qualifications nor registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council. They reportedly lured patients by claiming to provide allopathic, Ayurvedic and Unani treatment for sensitive ailments, including sexually transmitted diseases, and charged them hefty fees.

The raids were carried out at Santosh Health Clinic and Vinayak Health Clinic in Bhandup, Hamdam Dawakhana and Kohinoor Dawakhana in Jogeshwari, Ankush Ayurvedic Dawakhana in Borivali, Deepak Herbal Health Care in Dahisar and Samar Ayurvedic Dawakhana in Mankhurd. The action in Mankhurd was conducted through Crime Branch Unit 6.

During the raids, police seized medicine bottles, syringes, antibiotic tablets and other medical equipment worth approximately ₹2.20 lakh. Officials also found expired Unani and Ayurvedic medicines allegedly kept for dispensing to patients.

Police said allowing unqualified persons to practise medicine poses a serious risk to public health and prompted the crackdown.

A case has been registered at Bhandup Police Station under Sections 33 and 36 of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961.

The police said the drive against unauthorised medical practitioners and fake doctors operating clinics in the city would continue.
